Die In One Day (reviewed by Lisa Marie Bowman)
This 2017 film is about two people who are struggling.
Richard (David White) is a divorced father whose ex has custody of his child and is now living with an outlaw biker.
Sasha (Kateryna Korchynska) is an aspiring actress.
Together, they solve crimes!
Actually, they don’t. Instead, in order to make some extra money, they volunteer to take part in a 24-hour performance art piece. Not being particularly bright, they show up at the theater with no idea about what their roles will require. SURPRISE! It turns out that the theater is a part of an underground gambling ring and Richard and Sasha are going to spend 24 hours being hunted by some masked killers while rich people place bets on how long they’ll survive.
Who is placing the bets? There’s a slick guy on a yacht. And there’s an Elvis impersonator. I liked the Elvis guy because there was literally no reason for him to be an Elvis fan. As I watched the movie, I wondered if the actor just showed up looking like Elvis or was it specifically written into the script?
Elvis aside, there’s been so many different versions of The Most Dangerous Game that I can guarantee that you’ve seen this story before regardless of whether or not you’ve seen this particular film. This film doesn’t bring anything new to the genre and Richard and Sasha aren’t particularly likable characters so it’s not like the viewer is given any reason to care about whether or not they win their money. As for the killers, they all feel like rejects from The Purge or a dozen or so Purge rip-offs. There’s nothing particularly creative about any of this.
On the one hand, this was all pretty stupid.
On the other hand …. well, there is no other hand. Sorry.
Hey people!!!
HAVE A NICE DAY
